Nasomatto Black Afgano is the 2008 Extrait de Parfum from Italian niche house Nasomatto, one of the symbol unisex fragrances of "niche underground" perfumery. Composed by Alessandro Gualtieri (also the creator of Orto Parisi). Built on cannabis resin, dark oud, tobacco, coffee and oak moss — a dense, "green-smoky", mystical and taboo-feeling composition. Dense, "youth-green" cannabis-resin on the opening; oriental-smoke depth of oud and tobacco in the heart; dense "underground" oak-moss-patchouli base in the dry-down. It belongs to the oriental woody family, with very dense sillage and 12+ hours of longevity. The minimalist black 30 ml bottle has cult status.

Nasomatto Black Afgano — niche perfumery's "green taboo" symbol
Nasomatto Black Afgano is the 2008 Extrait de Parfum from experimental Italian niche house Nasomatto, and one of the most recognised symbols of "niche underground" perfumery. Widely searched as "Nasomatto Black Afgano", "Black Afgano", "Naso Black Afgano", "Black Afghan", in Russian "Насоматто Блэк Афгано", "Блэк Афгано", "Чёрный Афганец" or simply "Black Afgano". The name means "Afghan grass" — fitting the composition's "green-taboo" character.
Nasomatto and perfumer Alessandro Gualtieri
Nasomatto is the house founded by experimental Italian perfumer Alessandro Gualtieri, who also created Orto Parisi. The two houses operate as sister brands, both presented in minimalist 30 ml black bottles. Gualtieri works around the concept of "the purest, taboo, mystical scents of body and nature" — Black Afgano is the boldest example of that philosophy.
The character of Black Afgano
Nasomatto Black Afgano sits in the classic oriental woody family, but what sets it apart from typical oriental fragrances is its cannabis-resin (hash) accord and dense "youth-green-smoky" character. Cannabis resin and dark oud on the opening evoke "youth-taboo, green smoke"; tobacco, coffee and carnation in the heart add oriental-smoke depth; oak moss, patchouli and musk in the base thicken the dry-down and create the "underground noir" performance. Sillage is very dense, longevity 12+ hours — one spray is enough.
Who is it for?
Black Afgano is ideal for a 25+ unisex audience, more often worn by male and "collector" audiences. It holds a "boldest, most underground" reputation in the classic niche world. Particularly strong on winter evenings, at premium niche-evening events and in club-bar settings. Not suitable for the office — too dense and "taboo". Fans of more "classic-accessible" niche fragrances (e.g. MFK BR540) will find Black Afgano a bold step.
Why does Black Afgano have such cult status?
Black Afgano has been one of the most discussed names in the niche perfumery community for 15+ years. Four reasons:
- Taboo signature: a cannabis accord — a composition many brands wouldn't touch.
- Monster performance: a 30 ml extrait bottle delivers 12+ hour longevity and dense sillage.
- Minimalist aesthetic: black bottle, black logo — a collector-magnet design.
- Underground reputation: considered the "first niche extrait" passport among enthusiasts.
Other popular Nasomatto and Orto Parisi fragrances
Black Afgano fans often also explore these Gualtieri creations: Orto Parisi Megamare (sister house, more salty-oceanic), Orto Parisi Bergamask (more citrus-fresh), Orto Parisi Terroni (more spicy-earthy), Nasomatto Duro (Nasomatto's classic tobacco-oud men's version).
Dense niche fragrances similar to Black Afgano
In the dense-smoky-oud niche family, also consider: Bvlgari Le Gemme Empyr (more oriental-oud luxury), Tom Ford Tobacco Vanille (more tobacco-vanilla), Tom Ford Oud Wood (more classic oud-niche), Mancera Red Tobacco (more apple-tobacco, more accessible).
